Please excuse the low quality of some of the pictures. I had to try to use fairly high compression to keep the size of this site under control. Please be helpful and send comments here.

Part 4: Crazy Coin Tray
I could have gotten a complete reproduction
coin tray for about $35. But I wanted to save a few bucks and show
how you can just fix up your old one.
The coin tray had three
problems. Two were fixable. The third was not.
First Problem: That red paint.
Below is the coin tray after it has been cleaned and we've brass brushed
it to take the loose paint off. The red paint stuck pretty darn
well. I mostly roughed it up for the most part. And we
proceeded to paint it with Duplicolor Adhesion Promotor and SEM Charcoal
Bumper Coater. Easy Enough.

looking SPIFFY! But it brings us to the second problem.

Second Problem: The missing
emergency brake lever seal. I sourced a reproduction of one of
these from Ebay. It was about $16 shipped. Normally it just
pops on some tabs on the back. These break off and this is why the
seals are missing. Once again GOOP came to the rescue!

Just slather it on the back side of the coin tray. Try to keep
it back from the inner edges so it doesn't ooze out into the visible
area. Hold it on there for a bit and when it gets tacky, you can
just let it set overnight and you're done.
Please note: The
e-brake seal is NOT symmetrical. The Coin Tray is NOT symmetrical.
Look at the top of the coin tray where the split in the seal is.
The split is not in the center. Just make sure you get the right
orientation before glueing.

Problem 3: The problem that can't be
fixed is that the two small tabs on the bottom where the tray bends were
busted off. They push down into some friction fasteners in the
console hull.

The
front tabs were fine. When installed with the screws at the top
and the front tabs in place, the coin tray doesn't move or have any
problems. So IMHO it's not worth worrying about.
In Conclusion:
$16 and a bit of paint
and you can save some green.
